CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 3-0 on Wednesday at Chapman Field.
The Vaqueros (18-22) had multiple opportunities to score starting in the first, when the first three hitters walked to load the bases. The Islanders (15-29) got a strikeout, a pop out and a fly out to escape the threat.
The Vaqueros were held without a hit until the sixth, when senior
Cole Loncar lined a two-out single to left.

Scott Mercer, but the Islanders got a pair of strikeouts to escape the threat.
Aaron Hernandez (2-4) earned the win with three hitless innings of relief.
Nolan Holland worked around a one-out single in the ninth for his fifth save.
The Islanders got all of their runs in the fourth against sophomore Harlingen South alum
Zach Martinez (0-3). The Islanders put runners on the corners with one out, setting up an RBI-single by
Justin Perales.
Scott Balfantz followed with a fielder's choice, but an error allowed a run to score. After another single loaded the bases,
Cullen Jozwiak singled home a run to complete the scoring.
The Vaqueros resume Western Athletic Conference play on Friday at 7 p.m. when they open up a three-game series against CSU Bakersfield at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 6.
