EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley volleyball team's orange squad came away with a 3-2 win over the gray squad in their Orange vs. Gray scrimmage on Sunday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
"It was nice to get them out there in front of some people and kind of see how they are going to react," UTRGV head coach
Todd Lowery said. "There was a lot of adrenaline early with a few wild swings but I thought both sides settled down and played really well. I thought the defensive effort, especially on the orange team, was from phenomenal today. The gray side did some nice things early and then lost focus a little bit. Overall, I think it is going to be fun when they are on the same side together."
The gray team took the first set 25-21 and the second set 25-18 but the orange team rallied for a hard fought 25-23 victory in the third. The orange squad recorded 18 kills as a unit in the fourth set as they forced a fifth set with a 25-22 win.
In the final set, the orange team fell behind early but rallied once again for a 15-9 victory to take the match.
