EL PASO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team saw its five-match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to UTEP on Sunday at University Field.
UTRGV (5-2-1) extended its program-record shutout streak to 512:52, but just before halftime,
Aylin Villalobos came up with a long throw in to
Aleah Davis, who tapped the ball to
Yesenia Contreras, who shot into the lower left hand corner of the goal.
That was it against freshman
Kinga Szemik (3-1-0), who allowed a goal for the first time in four starts, but made five saves.
UTEP (7-1-2) goalkeeper
Alyssa Palacios (7-1-2) made three saves for the shutout.
UTRGV outshot UTEP 11-10, but UTEP outshot UTRGV 6-4 on goal.
Sophomore
Diandra Aliaga attempted a team-high four shots (one on goal) while junior
Andreya Barrera attempted a team-high two shots on goal (three total).
UTRGV is back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hampton.
