EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team beat Presbyterian College 1-0 in the home opener on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
UTRGV (2-0-1) got on the board at 8:35 when senior Alex Ochoa sent a long cross to senior Juanito Garcia, who touched the ball forward to freshman Angel Lopez, who spun around and passed the ball to freshman Jaakko Hietikko in the middle of the box. Hietikko fired past Connor Behrend (0-1-0) to make it 1-0.
 
Behred finished with five saves.
 
Presbyterian (0-3-0) attempted nine shots, including five on goal, but senior Leo Castillo (1-0-1) stopped them all.
 
UTRGV also took nine shots, including six on goal.
 
UTRGV opens up the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament on Friday at 9 p.m. against host San Diego State.
