BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's basketball team had its program record seven-game winning streak snapped with a 74-46 loss to CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at the Icardo Center.
Senior
Shawnte' Goff led UTRGV (12-7, 2-1 WAC) with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Erika Williams led CSU Bakersfield (6-10, 1-1 WAC) with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc, and 10 rebounds.
Alexxus Gilbert scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
Tylinn Carter finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
CSU Bakersfield jumped out to leads of 9-2, 14-4 and 17-6 before a three by sophomore
Bernesha Peters allowed UTRGV to close the first quarter on a 10-2 run to pull within three.
Goff opened the second quarter with a pair of layups to give UTRGV a 20-19 lead with 8:06 remaining, but CSU Bakersfield scored the final 18 points of the half to take a lead that they maintained for the rest of the game.
UTRGV is back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Grand Canyon.
