STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team is set to face No. 14 Oklahoma State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV's (0-2) opened the weekend with a 1-6 loss to Oral Roberts University on Friday.
 
ORU won on two of three doubles court to pick up the doubles point but the team of Elliot Johstone and Clément Sarradin defeated ORU's team of Jan Pehnec and Kenneth Boykin 6-4.
 
In singles, Johnstone got UTRGV on the board with a win on court one after beating Barnabas Koncz 6-2, 6-3. ORU won on the other five courts to put the match away.
  
Scouting Oklahoma State University
Oklahoma State kicks off their season when they host UTRGV on Saturday after turning in a 2016 season that saw them post a 20-8 record including an 11-2 record at home.
 
Last season, Oklahoma State lost in the first round of the Big 12 Championship Tournament but made it and hosted an NCAA Regional where they defeated Bryant and Arkansas 4-0.
 
They made it to the NCAA Championships but lost to Virginia 2-4.
 
Oklahoma State brings back seven from last year's squad including Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe who won an OSU record 34 doubles matches last season earning All-American honors after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
 
They also bring back Lukas Finzelberg who is ranked No. 30 in singles after a fall season that saw him win nine matches with four of those coming against ranked players. Cash is also ranked No. 41 in singles.
 
As a team, OSU is ranked No. 14 in the ITA Rankings that came out earlier this week.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 4-4 all-time against Oklahoma State in a series that dates back to 1970.
 
The last time these two teams faced off was back on March 18, 2015 when Oklahoma State defeated UTRGV 4-0 in Dallas.
 
The last time UTRGV defeated Oklahoma State came in 1981.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on January 29 when they travel to San Antonio to face the University of Texas at San Anontio.
