SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team looks for its second straight victory as they face off against the University of Texas at San Antonio Sunday at 10 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV's (1-3) is coming off their first victory of the season after defeating Prairie View A&M 5-2.
 
Koby Jansen and Rodrigo Del Pozo picked up their first doubles victory of the season after beating Freddy Quintero and Zachary Suico 6-3 on court three. Elliot Johnstone and Clément Sarradin clinched the doubles point for UTRGV with a 6-3 win on court one over Sergio Avella and Anirudh Yadav.
 
In singles, Sarradin added to UTRGV's lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ulrick Boyogueno and then Jansen in his first match since last April picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Quintero on court five.
 
Johnstone clinched the match for UTRGV with a win over Avella on court one and Mateo Schmit closed out the match with a win over Yadav on court two.
 
Scouting UTSA
UTSA (1-1) picked up their first win of the season after beating Prairie View A&M 7-0 on Wednesday.
 
UTSA has plenty of new faces this season as they welcome in seven newcomers to the squad. They do return Gabriel Borunda, Fabien Brand, Christian Carillo and Takeru Watanabe.
 
Watanabe had the most wins of the returners after going 4-7 last season. Brand went 2-12 while Carillo went 3-17.  As a team, UTSA went 3-20 last season while going 2-3 at home.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 23-29 against UTSA all-time in a series that dates back to 1982.
 
These two teams faced off last season and it was UTRGV that snapped a six-match losing streak to UTSA after a 4-3 win in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on Wednesday when they kick off their home portion of their schedule as they host the University of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union after the women's match at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
