Men’s Tennis to Face Southern Mississippi in a Neutral Site Match Saturday

BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team looks to kick off the weekend with a nice start as they face the University of Southern Mississippi in a neutral match on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV's (2-6) fell 0-6 to No. 25 Texas A&M last Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center to close out their weekend.
 
Texas A&M jumped out to the quick lead as they won the first two doubles matches to clinch the point. UTRGV's duo of Koby Jansen and Mateo Schmit were leading 5-4 in their match against Aleksandre Bakshi and James Martell on court two before the match was stopped.
 
In singles, Texas A&M did not drop a set as they won on courts one, six and two to clinch the win and added wins on courts five and three to close out the match.
 
Scouting Southern Mississippi
Southern Mississippi is 4-1 on the season while earning three of those wins at home.
 
After having their three-match win streak snapped with a loss to South Alabama, Southern Miss bounced back with a 5-2 win over New Orleans for their first road victory of the season.
 
They will face Lamar on Friday at 2 p.m. before facing UTRGV on Saturday.
 
Jorman Reyes leads Southern Miss with a 5-0 record in singles play while mainly playing at the No. 4 spot. Chao-Yu Huang, Rakshit Rishi and Teeradon Tortakul have each posted a 3-1 record so far this season.
 
In doubles, Huang and Wen-Po Tseng lead the team with a 4-1 record while playing all their matches at the No. 2 spot. Reyes and Daniel Merker have played at the No. 1 spot all year and have posted a 3-1 record.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 0-3 all-time against Southern Mississippi in a series that dates back to 1996.
 
The last time these two teams met up came back on February 28, 2015 when Southern Miss came away with the 5-2 win. The match was also played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

UTRGV will be right back at it on Sunday when they face Lamar at 12 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
