BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team closes out the weekend when they face Lamar University on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV's (2-7) fell 0-5 to Southern Mississippi University on Saturday in a neutral site match in Beaumont.
 
UTRGV had an early lead in doubles as the team of Yehonatan Kaufman and Andres Hernandez picked up a win on court three but it was Southern Miss who won on courts one and two to clinch the point.
 
Southern Miss then won on singles courts four, two and six to clinch the point. Elliot Johnstone jumped out to an early advantage with a 6-2 win in the first set before falling in the second 4-6. His match went unfinished.
 
Clément Sarradin opened his match with Teerdon Tortakul with a 6-2 win in the first set and then fell 3-6 in the second. Sarradin was leading 1-0 in the third before the match was stopped.
 
Scouting Lamar
Lamar was 5-4 after picking up a win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday.
 
They have recorded wins over Alcorn State, twice, Boise State and Oral Roberts. They hade a three match win streak followed by a three match losing streak.
 
Juuso Laitinen leads Lamar with a 5-3 singles record. Lamar has two with four singles wins this season with Michael Feucht posting a 4-2 record while Nikita Lis has a 4-5 record.
 
Lis and Jeandre Hoogenboezem lead the team in doubles with a 3-2 record. Lamar has used just five doubles team combinations this season.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 38-30-3 all-time against Lamar in a series that dates back to 1958.
 
Both of these teams met last season and it was Lamar who came away with a 6-1 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
The last time UTRGV came away with a victory came back on April 10, 2010 when they picked up the 6-1 win at home.

UTRGV will be back in action on February 28 when they host Louisiana at Lafayette at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
