BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team dropped a 1-6 road match to Lamar University on Sunday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
Lamar (6-4) grabbed the early lead after winning doubles matches on courts one and three. The duo of junior
Koby Jansen and freshman
Mateo Schmit held a 5-3 lead over Michael Feucht and Benny Schweizer on court two but that match went unfinished once the point was clinched.
Lamar went on to win the first five singles match to clinch the win but it was Jansen who got UTRGV (2-8) on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nikita Lis on court two.
Freshman Clément Sarradin opened his match with a 7-6 win in the first set over Juuso Laitinen before dropping the second 5-7. The tiebreaker went back-and-forth but it was Laitinen who came away with the 12-10 win to close out the match.
UTRGV added a match on Saturday, February 25, as they will head to San Antonio to face Incarnate Word at 2 p.m.
