Men’s Tennis Looks to Even Conference Record Against Seattle U Saturday

PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team looks to even up their conference record on Saturday as they face Seattle University at 10 a.m. at the GCU Tennis Facility.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (2-18) dropped their conference opener 3-4 to UMKC on Friday at the GCU Tennis Facility.
 
UTRGV fell behind early in the match as they dropped the doubles point. UMKC got wins on courts one and two before junior Koby Jansen and freshman Clément Sarradin won 6-3 on court three over Vinh Pham and Daniel Izadifar.
 
In singles, both teams went back and forth splitting singles matches. Kaufman picked up a win 6-4, 7-5 win over Uldis Gaismins on court two. Junior Elliot Johnstone also notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Amaury Navette on court three and it was Sarradin coming away with the 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 win over Tom Kruse court four.
 
UMKC won on courts one, five and six to clinch the match.
 
Scouting Seattle U
Seattle U is 9-9 on the season as they open up WAC play against UTRGV.
 
They are coming off of a 4-3 win over Whitman College on March 10 in Seattle.
 
Jeremiah Kalmus leads Seattle U with an 11-4 record this spring while playing in the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots. Kalmus is the only player to have double-digit singles victories.
 
In doubles, Michael Schoettler and John Stormans have posted team's most wins as they have a 6-6 record. Matt Alderson and Trenton Nield have posted four doubles victories.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 4-0 against Seattle U all-time in a series that dates back to 1980.
 
Both of these teams met up last season and it was UTRGV who picked up the 5-2 victory in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on Friday March 31 when they host Laredo Community College at 1 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center for their final home match of the season.
