CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's tennis team is set to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the final time this season on Tuesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (2-13) closed out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions with a 2-4 loss at the hands of UTSA on Saturday.
Doubles were not played but in singles it was
Koby Jansen and
Elliot Johnstone recording a pair of victories.
Jansen defeated Kai Breitbach 6-3, 6-4 on court one while Johnstone went three sets with Juri Reckow to pick up the 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 victory on court two.
UTSA won the other four courts to take the match.
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 7-4 on the season after going 2-1 in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. They picked up wins over UTSA and DePaul with their lone loss coming against New Mexico State.
William Mottet leads the Islanders with a 5-2 record in the spring while playing in the three, four and five spots. Paul Cook has a 4-1 record this spring while Cagatay Soke and Kevin Bettendroffer have each posted three wins in singles.
In doubles, the Islanders have used just four different teams with Mottet and Bettendroffer leading the way to win five doubles matches. No other team has posted more than two wins.
South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union
UTRGV currently trails in the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union by a score of 25-17.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi added four points for wins at Valley Classic Collegiate Meet in both men's and women's track and field.
The next event is currently taking place with the women's golf UTRGV Invitational at the McAllen Country Club.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 13-40 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi all-time in a series that dates back to 1961.
The two teams met earlier this season and it was Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that came away with the 6-1 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
UTRGV has not defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi since March 10, 2010 when the picked up the 4-3 victory in Corpus Christi.

UTRGV will be back in on the road on March 15 when they face the University of South Carolina-Upstate.
