SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team (26-26, 7-15 WAC) faces a must-win situation in its quest for a WAC Tournament berth when it faces Sacramento State (26-27, 10-12 WAC) for the second of three on Friday at 8 p.m. at John Smith Field.
UTRGV trails Northern Colorado and Seattle U by one game in the standings for the final two tournament spots. UTRGV holds the head-to-head tiebreakers over Seattle U and Chicago State, which UTRGV is currently tied with, but not Northern Colorado or Utah Valley, which is two games ahead of UTRGV. In a three-way tiebreaker between UTRGV, Seattle U and Northern Colorado, Seattle U would win and Northern Colorado would come second.
