EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team opened the second UTRGV Tournament with a 1-0 loss to Stetson on Thursday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
Stetson (3-2-0) broke through with 15 seconds remaining in the first half when Annette Morton scored on a free kick from the top of the box.
 
That was it against sophomore Kinga Szemik (1-1-0), who made four saves.
 
Emily Plotz (3-2-0) made three saves for the shutout.
 
Stetson outshot UTRGV (3-1-0) 13-10, including 5-3 on goal, but UTRGV outshot Stetson 10-6 in the second half, including 3-2 on goal.
 
UTRGV wraps up the tournament on Saturday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Lamar.
 
Stetson faces Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first match of the day at 4.
 
The Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Drive continues with the Food Bank RGV, which is working with H-E-B to handle collection and distribution, encouraging the donation of:
•Bottled Water
•Peanut Butter
•Easy Open Tuna
•Potted Meat
•Vienna Sausages
•Paper Towels
•Toilet Paper
  
Fans donating at least five individual non-perishable food items at will receive free admission.
  
Current UTRGV students, who already receive free admission, will receive Orange Out for Hunger Action Month T-shirts while supplies last.
 
All fans are encouraged to wear orange throughout the weekend to show support for disaster relief efforts.
