HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team played Houston Baptist University (HBU) to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Friday at Sorrels Field.
Freshman McAllen alum
Anna Hover scored her second goal of the season in the 57
th minute when sophomore
Sarah Bonney sent a short corner to Hover, who turned around and fired into the upper-left hand corner of the net to put UTRGV (3-2-1) up 1-0.
HBU (0-3-1) responded 16 minutes later when
Megan Ricket forced a turnover and flicked the ball to
Gabby Rodriguez in front of the net, who came up with a header goal to tie the match.
Sophomore
King Szemik (1-1-1) made a career-high tying seven saves.
Alanis Guevara (0-3-1) finished with three saves.
HBU outshot UTRGV 19-16, including 8-4 on net.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
