LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set to take on No. 25 Texas Tech University on Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
Last Time Out
UTRGV fell in its first neutral site match of the season 0-7 to the University of New Mexico.
New Mexico took the doubles point with a win on court three and two while the match on court one between
Elliot Johnstone and
Yehonatan Kaufman and Bart Van Leijsen and Stepan Holis went unfinished.
New Mexico won on each singles court to clinch the match but UTRGV (1-1) saw Dennis Boisseau take his match on cour three against Dominic West to three sets. Boisseau dropped the first set 0-6, won the second 7-5 and fell in the tiebreaker 10-5.
Scouting Texas Tech
Texas Tech enters play on Sunday with a 7-1 and have won six in a row after defeating Louisiana-Lafayette 7-0 on Friday. Their wins have come against Hawaii, twice, Midwestern State, UT-Permian Basin, UTSA, Abilene Christian, and Louisiana Lafayette. Their loss came against No. 21 Florida State.
They will take on New Mexico after facing UTRGV at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Connor Curry, Matheus Leite, and Ilgiz Valiev each have recorded six singles victories this season. Curry and Leite are currently riding a five-match win streak.
As a team, Texas Tech has posted a 34-11 singles record in dual match play.
In doubles, Texas Tech has posted a 14-7 record in dual match play. The duo of Artem Kapshuk and Valiev lead the team with a 4-2 record while Curry and Leite have teamed up to post a 3-1 record so far this season.

UTRGV is 10-14 all-time against Texas Tech in a series that dates back to 1961.
The last time these two teams met came back on January 16, 2013 in Lubbock, where Texas Tech came away with the 6-1 victory.
The last time UTRGV defeated Texas Tech came back in 1981.
