Men's Tennis to Face Prairie View A&M Sunday in Home Opener

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set to kick off a three-match home stand as it hosts Prairie View A&M University in their home opener on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
The match will follow the conclusion of the women's match against Prairie View A&M. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV fell to 0-5 to No. 25 Texas Tech last Sunday as they wrapped up their two-match weekend.
 
Texas Tech opened doubles with a win on court one and then clinched the point with a victory on court three. UTRGV's (1-2) duo of sophomore Dennis Boisseau and senior Koby Jansen were going toe-to-toe with Matheus Leite and Ilgiz Valiev on court two as the match was tied at four before it went unfinished after the clinching of the point.
 
In singles, Texas Tech won on courts two, three, four and one to close out the match.
 
Scouting Prairie View A&M
Prairie View A&M is 0-4 on the season after coming off back-to-back losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
 
Prairie View A&M did take a point from Rice in its season opener as they fell 1-6 on January 14. They also took a point from Oral Roberts on January 21 as they fell 1-4.
 
Kevin Ugarteche was the one who earned Prairie View A&M's point against Rice after winning 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 on court six against Rice's Jared Aiman. He then claimed the point against Oral Roberts after beating Andrew Guymon 6-2, 6-2 on court five.
 
In doubles, the team of Ulrick Boyogueno and Anirudh Yadav have recorded the only doubles win on the season after defeating Francois and Okkie Kellerman in their first match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 15-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M in a series that dates back to 1986.
 
These two teams faced off last season in Prairie View as UTRGV came away with the 5-2 victory.
 
Saturday's meeting will be the first of two meetings this season with the second meeting coming during the UTRGV Spring Break Showdown.

UTRGV currently has nine student-athletes on the roster representing five different countries, including the France (Dennis Boisseau, Clément Sarradin), United States (Jake Davidson, Zane Kohrs, Michael Loyd), Australia (Koby Jansen, Elliot Johnstone), Israel (Yehonatan Kaufman), and Argentina (Mateo Schmit).
 
Next Up
UTRGV will continue its home stand when they host UTSA on Sunday, February 4 at 11 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
