ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team fell to Georgia Tech 72-44 on Wednesday at McCamish Pavilion.
Junior
Lesley Varner II led UTRGV (3-3) with 11 points and seven rebounds. Varner has now reached double-figures in all six games, matching his season total from last year.
Michael Devoe led Georgia Tech (3-1) with 14 points and five assists.
Jose Alvarado scored 13 points with three rebounds and three assists.
Moses Wright finished with 11 points and four assists.
After Georgia Tech scored the first seven points of the game, Varner nailed a three and senior
Terry Winn III made a layup to bring UTRGV within 7-5. Georgia Tech scored the next 10 points to go up 12, and that's where the score stayed for the next four minutes as Varner made three free throws and graduate student
Solomon Hainna added one. Georgia Tech responded by scoring the next 15 points as part of a 21-1 run to push the game out of reach.
UTRGV returns home on Friday at 7 p.m. against Lamar at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Fans can take advantage of four packs that include four tickets, four hot dogs, and four drinks for $25. Doors open at 6.
