EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team fell to UMKC 83-59 on Thursday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Senior
Nick Dixon led UTRGV (14-15, 5-7 WAC) with 20 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Terry Winn scored 11 points with seven rebounds.
Broderick Robinson led UMKC (10-19, 5-7 WAC) with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Brandon McKissic scored 14 points with five rebounds.
Marco Smith scored 12 points.
Xavier Bishop scored 11 points with five assists.
Jordan Giles scored 10 points.
UMKC scored the first four points before a Winn three-point play brought UTRGV within 4-3.
UMKC followed by hitting six of its next 10 shots to go on a 15-2 run and take a 19-5 lead.
Winn hit two layups and two free throws to bring UTRGV within 24-11 at the 8:53 mark, but UMKC scored the next 15 points to push its lead to 28 points.
UTRGV responded with an 11-3 run to pull within 42-22 on a three by freshman
Greg Bowie early in the second half.
UTRGV got as close as 17 at 54-37 on a pair of Dixon free throws with 13:59 remaining.
UTRGV plays its annual homecoming game on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Chicago State at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. There will be a pregame tailgate party in the parking lot starting at 5. Doors to the fieldhouse open at 6.
