EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team returns home to host Lamar University at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (3-4) dropped a tight match to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi after falling 3-4 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
UTRGV jumped out to the early 1-0 lead as they won a pair of doubles matches to take the point. The duo of Dennis Boisseau and Clément Sarradin opened doubles with a 6-3 win over William Mottet and David Ambrozic on court two.
The team of
Koby Jansen and
Yehonatan Kaufman clinched the point for UTRGV after defeating Francois and Okkie Kellerman 6-4 on court one.
In singles, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won on courts four, three and five to take the 3-1 lead when Jansen put another UTRGV point on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mottet on court one.
The Islanders clinched the win with a win on court six before Boisseau added a win on court two to close out the scoring in the match.
Scouting Lamar
Lamar is 1-5 heading into its match with UTRGV. Lamar is coming off of a 1-6 loss to South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. Its lone win of the season came against Jacksonville State.
Lamar is 9-26 in singles play this season and has three players with two victories to their names in Sebastian Santibanez, Benny Schweizer, and Arthur Serafim.
In doubles, Lamar is 1-12 on the year with Santibanez and Logan Powell the only duo to win a doubles match.
Lamar has had four matches postponed this season due to weather.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 38-31-3 all-time against Lamar in a series that dates back to 1958.
Both of these teams met up last season and it was Lamar who came away with the 6-1 win in Beaumont.
The last time UTRGV defeated Lamar came back on April 10, 2010 when it won 6-1 at home as part of the Southland Conference.

UTRGV will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27 when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 2 p.m. as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
