EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team picked up its third win at home after defeating Lamar University 5-2 on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
UTRGV (4-4) continued its strong doubles play as it took the early 1-0 lead. The duo of sophomores Dennis Boisseau and Clément Sarradin opened doubles with a 6-2 win over Lukas Grubelnig and Nicolas Mayr on court two.
Senior
Elliot Johnstone and sophomore Mateo Schmit clinched the doubles point with a. 6-2 win over Brock Lauer and Roy Stepanov on court three.
In singles, Sarradin extended UTRGV's lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court six over Grubelnig and then junior
Yehonatan Kaufman pushed the score to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mayr on court three.
Senior
Koby Jansen sealed the UTRGV victory with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Logan Powell on court one for his third straight singles win.
Lamar got on the board with a win on court two before Johnstone added another point for UTRGV with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 win over Stepanov on court four. Lamar finished off the match with a win on court five.
UTRGV will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27 when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 2 p.m. as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
