LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team went toe-to-toe with the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns but fell 3-4 in a tight match on Friday at the Cajun Courts.
 
UTRGV (4-8) jumped out to the early lead by taking two of three matches in doubles. It was Louisiana (14-8) who grabbed the first advantage with a win on court two but then it was senior Elliot Johnstone and sophomore Mateo Schmit tying things with a 6-3 win over Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud on court three. 
 
Senior Koby Jansen and junior Yehonatan Kaufman then came through with a 6-4 win on court one over Elio Lago and Vlad Kramarov to give UTRGV the 1-0 lead. 
 
In singles, Louisiana tied the match at one with a win on court five but Jansen regained the lead for UTRGV with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Niko Sojka. 
 
Louisiana then took the 3-2 lead with wins on courts two and three before Johnstone knotted things up with a win on court four over Kramarov. Johnstone fell behind after dropping the first set 5-7 but answered with a 6-2 win in the second before taking the third 6-4.
 
It all came down to court six where sophomore Clément Sarradin opened his match against Pearse Dolan with a 6-4 win in the first set. Dolan answered with a 6-4 win in the second which forced a third set as he clinched the win with a 6-2 win. 
 
UTRGV will be right back in action on Saturday when it faces off against Nicholls State at 1 p.m.
