Men's Tennis Takes on Nicholls State Saturday

THIBODEAUX, Louisiana – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team looks to get back on the right track as it faces off against Nicholls State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (4-8) went toe-to-toe with Louisiana at the Cajun Courts but fell 3-4 in a tight match on Friday.
 
UTRGV came away with the doubles point after Elliot Johnstone and Mateo Schmit picked up a win on court three before Koby Jansen and Yehonatan Kaufman clinched the point with a win on court one.
 
In singles, UTRGV got wins from Jansen and Johnstone but Louisiana won the rest of the courts to clinch the win.
 
Scouting Nicholls State
Nicholls State is 2-6 on the season after falling 3-4 to Alabama State back on March 4. Nicholls State is currently on a six-match losing streak after winning its first two matches against Mississippi Valley State twice.
 
Nicholls State is 12-27 in singles play this year with five players recording two wins each.
 
In doubles, Nicholls State is 9-12 on the season. The duo of Lewis Cox and Nestor Biribet Lopez leading the team with three wins.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 7-6 all-time against Nicholls State in a series that dates back to 2005.
 
Both teams met up back March 14, 2016 when UTRGV came away with the 4-2 victory on the road.  
 
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has nine student-athletes on the roster representing five different countries, including the France (Dennis Boisseau, Clément Sarradin), United States (Jake Davidson, Zane Kohrs, Michael Loyd), Australia (Koby Jansen, Elliot Johnstone), Israel (Yehonatan Kaufman), and Argentina (Mateo Schmit).
 
Next Up
UTRGV will return home to host the UTRGV Spring Break Showdown form March 22-24 at McAllen Country Club as Prairie View A&M, Oral Roberts and Southern Utah all come into town.
