THIBODAUX, Louisiana – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team snapped it four-match losing streak with a 4-2 win over Nicholls State University on Saturday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
UTRGV (5-8) and Nicholls State (2-7) decided to play singles first and then doubles only if necessary.
In singles, junior
Yehonatan Kaufman got things started with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court three over Alvaro Barranco giving UTRGV the 1-0 lead.
Senior
Elliot Johnstone pushed UTRGV's lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Eduardo Marino on court four.
Sophomore Dennis Boisseau made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tobias Lentz on court two but Nicholls State answered with wins on courts five and six to make it 3-2 UTRGV.
Senior
Koby Jansen then clinched the win after defeating Oleksander Podgursky on court one. Jansen opened his match with a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 4-6 in the second. Jansen put the match away with a 6-4 win in the third.
UTRGV returns home to host the UTRGV Spring Break Showdown from March 22-24 at McAllen Country Club.
