MCALLEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team will face the Oral Roberts University in its second match of the UTRGV Spring Break Showdown at 1 p.m. at the McAllen Country Club.
Southern Utah and Prairie View A&M will be the first match of the day starting at 9 a.m.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (6-8) picked up its second straight victory after defeating Southern Utah 4-2 on Friday.
After falling on doubles court two, UTRGV got a pair of wins from
Elliot Johnstone and Mateo Schmit on court three before
Koby Jansen and
Yehonatan Kaufman clinched the doubles point on court one.
In singles, Dennis Boisseau won on court two and then Jansen quickly added another point with a straight set victory on court one.
Southern Utah won on singles courts four and five to get within one but Kaufman clinched the win with a straight set victory on cour three.
Scouting Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts is coming off of a 4-3 win over Prairie View A&M on Thursday to improve to 7-6 on the season. ORU is currently riding a three-match win streak after also defeating Arkansas Fort Smith and Chicago State.
ORU has also picked up wins over Prairie View A&M, earlier in the season, Arkansas Pine Bluff, twice, and Omaha.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 7-9 all-time against Oral Roberts in a series that dates back to 1969.
Both teams met up last season and it was Oral Roberts coming away with the victory.
The last time UTRGV defeated Oral Roberts was back in 2014.

UTRGV currently has nine student-athletes on the roster representing five different countries, including the France (Dennis Boisseau, Clément Sarradin), United States (Jake Davidson, Zane Kohrs, Michael Loyd), Australia (
Koby Jansen,
Elliot Johnstone), Israel (
Yehonatan Kaufman), and Argentina (Mateo Schmit).
