MCALLEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team won its third straight match and its second of the Spring Break Showdown after defeating Oral Roberts University 4-1 on Friday at McAllen Country Club.
UTRGV (7-8) fell behind in the match as Oral Roberts (7-7) took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Freshman Zane Kohrs and sophomore Clément Sarradin were leading 4-3 in their match against Andrew Guymon and Marcello Moreira but the match was stopped once the point was clinched.
UTRGV answered back with four straight wins in singles. Sarradin got UTRGV on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Eddy Leardini on court five tying the match at 1-1.
Junior
Yehonatan Kaufman gave UTRGV the lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alvaro Santamaria on court three before senior
Koby Jansen made it 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kennth Boykin on court one.
Sophomore Dennis Boisseau clinched the win for UTRGV with a win on court two. Boisseau dropped his first set to Jan Pehnec 4-6 but battled back with a 6-3 victory in each of the final two sets.
UTRGV closes out the Spring Break Showdown on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it faces Prairie View A&M at McAllen Country Club.
