CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 3-4 loss to Seattle U on Sunday at H-F Racquet Fitness Club.
 
UTRGV (10-12, 1-4 WAC) jumped out to the early lead after taking two matches in doubles. Sophomores Dennis Boisseau and Mateo Schmit teamed up to pick up the 6-4 win over Matt Alderson and Colton Weeldreyer on court one. 
 
After Seattle U (10-12, 2-3 WAC) won on court three, it was Junior Yehonatan Kaufman and senior Elliot Johnstone who clinched the point for UTRGV with a 7-5 win over Trenton Nield and Adria Sanabria on court two.
 
In singles, UTRGV added to its lead with a 7-6, 6-0 win by Kaufman over Ghazaryan on court two. 
 
UTRGV forced three sets on three of the next four matches but it fell short as Seattle U answered with wins on courts three, four, six, and one.
 
Freshman Zane Kohrs closed out the match with a win on court five as he battled back after dropping the first set 3-6 to Alex Chan. Kohrs followed with a 6-3, and 6-4 wins in the second and third sets to pick up the victory.
 
UTRGV will next travel to Phoenix, Arizona for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament from April 27-29.
