MESA, Ariz. – The fifth seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team defeated No. 4 Seattle U 4-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at the Mesa Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (11-12) came out with a purpose in doubles as it won on courts two and three. The duo of junior Yehonatan Kaufman and senior Elliot Johnstone picked up the 6-2 win over Trenton Nield and Adrian Sanabria on court two.
 
It was sophomore Clément Sarradin and freshman Zane Kohrs clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Arshak Ghzaryan and Emilio Monroy on court three. 
 
In singles, Sarradin added to UTRGV's lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Monroy on court four that made it 2-0. 
 
Sophomore Dennis Boisseau won his first set 6-4 over Trenton Nield. After Boisseau won the first game of the second set, Nield was forced to retire due to an injury giving UTRGV another point pushing its lead to 3-0. 
 
Seattle U (10-13) got on the board with a win on court five but it was Kaufman on court two who closed out the match with a win. Kaufman dropped his first set 0-6 to Ghazaryan but answered back with a 6-1 win in the second and a 6-4 win in the third.
 
The matches on courts three and six were stopped once the match was clinched,
 
UTRGV will face top-seeded UMKC on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Mesa Tennis Center for a spot in the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
