GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team dropped the finale of a three-game series to the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) 3-2 on Sunday at Jackson Field.
Sophomore
Coleman Grubbs supplied all of UTRGV's (21-27, 6-12 WAC) offense in the second with a two-run single.
Grubbs finished the series 7-for-12 (.583).
Junior
Trevelle Hill made that lead standup until the sixth, when UNC (26-21, 9-12 WAC) tied the game on an RBI-groundout by
Jack Pauley and a wild pitch that brought home
Matt Burkart.
Hill struck out five while five hits and one walk in 5.1 innings.
UNC took the lead in the seventh when
Dean Lawson reached on an RBI-fielder's choice against junior Nikki Rowe alum
Ryan Jackson (3-3).
That made a winner of
Zach Heath (1-0), who pitched a perfect inning of relief.
Connor Leedholm pitched two scoreless innings for his 10
thsave.
Two UTRGV batters had multi-hit games, including junior
Roger Varela III, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and sophomore
Tyler Torres, who also went 2-for-4.
UTRGV opens up a three-game series at Chicago State on Friday at 6 p.m.
