HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team dropped its season opener 1-0 to Saint Francis University at Sorrels Field on Friday in the first match of the HBU Invitational.
 
Saint Francis (1-0-0) took the lead 1-0 25:18 into the match as Mario Mastrangelo took the pass from Lucas Rosa in the box and snuck it by UTRGV goalie Andy Rios (0-1-0).
 
UTRGV (0-1-0) had an opportunity late in the first half but junior Kyle Edward's shot was saved by Alex Morgret (1-0-0) as Saint Francis took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
UTRGV put pressure on Saint Francis in the second half but Morgret kept them off the board with a pair of saves.
 
Rios kept the score at 1-0 as he finished the match with four saves.
 
UTRGV returns to the pitch on Sunday when it closes out the HBU Invitational against Siena at Sorrels Field at 1 p.m.
