OREM, Utah – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team fell to Utah Valley University (UVU) 82-61 on Thursday at the UCCU Center.
Senior
Terry Winn III led UTRGV (9-11, 1-3 WAC) with 15 points and three steals. Senior
Johnny Crnogorac scored a season-high 10 points on a career-high tying 4-of-6 shooting while recording his third-career multi-steal game. Junior
Lesley Varner II also scored 10 points.
Conner Toolson led UVU (13-6, 2-2 WAC) with 17 points and four steals.
Jake Toolson scored 16 points with eight rebounds.
Baylee Steele scored 12 points.
TJ Washington finished with 10 points and eight assists.
Winn hit an early jumper and converted a three-point play to help UTRGV jump out to a 6-3 lead.
UTRGV still led by three after a graduate student
Tyson Smith hit a layup to make the score 8-5, but UVU followed with a 24-2 run to build a 29-10 lead.
UTRGV responded with a 10-3 run to pull within 12, and got as close as 11 on a Winn free throw early in the second half before a 19-6 UVU run pushed the game out of reach.
UTRGV is back in action on Saturday at 9 p.m. at Seattle U.
