RIO GRANDE VALLEY – Senior
Kyle Edwards scored a pair of second-half goals to lead No. 24 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team past the defending Western Athletic Conference Champion Air Force Falcons 2-0 on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
Edwards now has four-career multi-goal matches.
Edwards scored the game-winning goal, the fifth of his career and second of the season, at 55:11. Edwards forced the ball into the back of the net off a cross by freshman
Lukas Moser which was proceeded by a pass from junior
Orlando Arreola.
Edwards scored his team-leading sixth goal at 79:12 off a pass by junior
William Akio, who broke through the midfield and sprinted up the right side to earn his first assist.
Senior
Andy Rios (6-2-0) made five saves for his fourth shutout of the season, the ninth of his career.
The Falcons (3-6-0, 2-1-0 WAC) outshot the Vaqueros (6-2-0, 2-1-0 WAC) 11-5, but each team had five shots on goal.
Kainoa Likewise (3-6-0) finished with three saves.
UTRGV is back in action on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Houston Baptist.
