BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team looks to snap its three-match losing streak as it faces Lamar University on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV will then face Southern Miss on Saturday at 10 a.m. in a neutral site match at Lamar.
 
Living on the Road

• UTRGV is 2-5 on the season.
• All of its matches have been away from the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
• Two of the matches this season have been neutral site matches with both coming at the Donni Leaycraft Scramble.
• After this weekend's matches, UTRGV will play a few more matches on the road at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions before opening at home on Feb. 28 vs. Laredo Community College.

 
All-Time Series

• UTRGV is 29-31-3 all-time against Lamar in a series that dates back to 1958.
• UTRGV defeated Lamar 5-2 last season at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
• UTRGV is 0-4 all-time against Southern Miss in a series that dates back to 1996.
• The last time UTRGV played Southern Miss was on Feb. 18, 2017 when it lost 0-5 in a neutral site match in Beaumont.

 
Scouting Lamar

• Lamar is 1-5 this season.
• Lamar's only win this season came against Nicholls State at the LSU Invite.
• Lamar is coming off of a 2-5 loss against UTSA back on Feb. 10.
• Two players lead the way for Lamar with three wins this spring in Nicolas Mayr and Axel Vila Antuna.
• Lamar is 9-24 in singles play and 4-8 in doubles play.
• Mayr and Arthur Serafim lead the way in doubles with a 2-2 record in doubles play. Antuna has recorded the other two wins while teaming up with Patrick Fleischhauer for one win and teaming with Joshua Taylor for the other.

 
Scouting Southern Miss

• Southern Miss is 2-2 on the season.
• Southern Miss is coming off of a 0-4 loss at Louisiana and is riding a two-match losing streak.
• The two wins for Southern Miss came against Alcorn State, and Jackson State.
• Southern Miss is 13-6 in singles play and 5-4 in doubles play.
• Southern Miss will play Lamar on Sunday.
