CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team dropped the first South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, match of the season 1-6 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Complex.
 
With the loss, UTRGV still leads in the showdown standings 23.5 points to 9.5 points. 
 
UTRGV (2-5) had a chance to take the early lead in doubles play. The duo of sophomore Zane Kohrs and junior Clément Sarradinpicked up the 6-2 win over Okkie Kellerman and Kyohei Yamanaka on court two. 
 
Corpus Christi (7-1) won on court three, which made the match on court one the deciding match. Senior Yehonatan Kaufmanand freshman George Hutchingshad a chance to clinch the point as they fell 6-7.
 
In singles, Corpus Christi won on five of the six courts to clinch the win. Kohrs picked up the lone point for UTRGV with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Yamanaka on court six.
 
UTRGV will back in action on February 16 when it travels to Beaumont to face Lamar University at 2 p.m.
 
The next South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, will be a women's golf tournament from February 25-26 in Corpus Christi.
