SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team fell 1-6 to the University of Texas at San Antonio on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (2-12) got its only point from the No. 5 singles court as junior Mateo Schmit defeated Javier Gonzalez. Schmit fell behind early in his match as he dropped his first set 1-6 but forced a third set with a 6-2 win. In that third set, Schmit held on for the 6-4 win to get the point.
 
UTRGV forced three sets in two other singles courts as freshman Samuel de Felipe Garcia dropped the first set 1-6 to Kai Breitbach. De Felipe Garcia bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second before falling 3-6 in the third.
 
Freshman George Hutchingsalso saw his match go to three sets against Joao Ceolin on court two. After falling 4-6 in the first set, Hutchings answered with a 7-5 win in the second before falling 3-10 in the third.
 
UTSA (10-2) also added victories on courts three, four, and six. The took the 1-0 lead into singles after winning on doubles courts one and three. 
 
UTRGV will be back in action on Sunday when it faces the University of the Incarnate Word on Sunday at 10 a.m.
