LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team picked up its first Western Athletic Conference win of the season after defeating Seattle University 7-0 on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (4-17, 1-2 WAC) dropped just one set all day against Seattle U (4-9, 0-2 WAC) and it all started in doubles. 
 
Sophomore Zane Kohrs and freshman Samuel de Felipe Garcia took care of business on court one with a 6-3 win over Arshak Ghazaryan and Colton Weeldreyer. Senior Yehonatan Kaufman and freshman George Hutchings followed with a 6-2 win over Emilio Monroy and Adrian Alvarez-Sanabria on court two.
 
Juniors Clément Sarradin and Mateo Schmit put a cap on the scoring in doubles with a 7-5 win over Billy Givens-Jensen and Alex Chan on court three.
 
UTRGV continued its dominance in singles play. De Felipe Garcia defeated Weeldreyer 6-4, 6-2 on court one while Kaufman took care of business on court two with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ghazaryan. 
 
Hutchings picked up the 6-2, 6-1 victory over Monroy on court three. Sarradin found himself trailing Chan after the first set on court four but came back with a 6-0 win in the second set before winning 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
 
Freshman Te Kani Williams added win on court five with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alvarez-Sanabria and Kohrs didn't drop a game to Givens-Jensen on court six with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on April 12 when it travels to Seattle, Washington to face Chicago State in the second portion of the WAC Cluster.
