HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team opened up the season with a 2-1 victory over Wofford on Sunday at Sorrels Field on the campus of Houston Baptist.
UTRGV (1-0-0) wasted no time in getting the first goal of the season, as senior
Kyle Edwards, a member of the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, fed senior
Dimitris Strantzalis, who scored his first-career goal at 4:02.
That's where the scored stayed until the 56
thminute, when
Eduardo Velasco tied the game on an assist by
Alex Dennis.

Angel Lopez scored the game-winning goal in the 81
st minute off a pass from sophomore Valley View alum

Andy Rios (1-0-0) made five saves for UTRGV while
Shane Berson (0-2-0) made six saves for Wofford (0-2-0).
UTRGV outshot Wofford 17-12, including 8-6 on goal.
UTRGV is scheduled to return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. at Stetson.
