LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team opened Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a 2-0 victory over UNLV on Saturday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Angel Lopez, who turned and found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, giving UTRGV the 1-0 lead.

Lukas Betz for his first-career goal, extending UTRGV's lead to 2-0.
UTRGV's defense took control in the second half as it allowed just two shots while senior goalie
Andy Rios (5-1) made a total of five saves for his third shutout of the season.
UTRGV outshot UNLV 13-7 and 7-5 on goal while also having the advantage in corners 12-7.
UTRGV will return home to host Utah Valley on October 4 at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
