ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team opened the season with a 0-7 loss against Abilene Christian on Saturday at the Teague Special Events Center.
 
Abilene Christian (1-2) jumped out to the early lead over the Vaqueros (0-1) after sweeping through doubles and then added two more points with wins at No. 3 and 2 singles. 
 
Junior Carlo Izurieta opened his match with a 7-6 win in his first set against Jonathan Sheehy at the No. 1 singles spot but fell in the next sets as Abilene Christian clinched the victory.  
 
Abilene Christian added wins at No. 6 and 5 singles courts to close out the match. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Monday when they visit Texas Tech at 9 a.m. at the Lubbock Country Club.
