CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday when it faces off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 12 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV fell 0-7 at Texas Tech.
• UTRGV took three of its six singles matches to three sets. 
• Samuel de Felipe Garcia played at No. 2 singles and opened with a 6-4 win in the first set against Reed Collier before falling in the final two sets.  
• Alberto Mello bounced back in the second set of his match with Connor Johnson to win 6-2 to force a third set before falling in the tiebreaking set. 
• Mateo Schmit opened his match with Justin Bloss at No. 6 singles with a 6-4 win in the first set before falling in the second and third.

• UTRGV is 13-44 all-time against Corpus Christi.
• The series dates back to 1961.
• Corpus Christi won both of last season's matches defeating UTRGV 4-0 on Mar. 13 and 6-1 on Feb. 4.
• UTRGV has dropped the last 12 matches against Corpus Christi.
• The last time UTRGV defeated Corpus Christi came back on Mar. 10, 2010 after picking up the 4-3 victory in Corpus Christi.

• Corpus Christi has four freshmen on the squad with Ryuya Ata leading the way after being named Southland Player of the Week.
• Ata and Yamanaka lead the team this season with 4 singles victories as the team is 18-0 in singles play.
• Corpus Christi is 5-3 in doubles play while just using three doubles teams through the first four matches.

• UTRGV trails in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, standings 14-19.
• After the men's and women's tennis matchups in Corpus Christi, the next showdown event will be the men's tennis match at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Feb. 5.
• UTRGV has dropped the last four events in the showdown after winning four of the first six events.
