CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 0-7 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union on Wednesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
The Vaqueros (0-3) now trail the Islanders (5-0) 22-14 in the showdown standings. 
 
The Islanders took the early 1-0 lead after taking doubles matches at No. 2 and 3 doubles. Juniors Carlo Izurieta and Alberto Mello were leading in their match against William Mottet and Ryuya Ata 6-5 before it was stopped once the doubles point was clinched.
 
Junior Michael Loyd took his singles match against Carlos Berna Ruiz to three sets at the No. 6 spot as he opened with a 6-3 win before falling in the second and third sets. Corpus Christi swept through the other singles matches to clinch the win.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on February 5 when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
