CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis fell 3-4 to DePaul University on Friday at the H-E-B Tennis Center in its opening match of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.  
 
UTRGV (1-5) came out of the gates and grabbed the early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. After falling at the No. 1 spot, the team of junior Michael Loyd and sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia picked up the 6-4 win over Vito Tonejc and Fran Tonejc at the No. 3 spot. 
 
Junior Zane Kohrsand sophomore George Hutchings then gave UTRGV the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Tripp Tuff and Luuk Wassenaar at the No. 2 spot. 
 
The Vaqueros kept it rolling as they picked up the first two points of singles play. Junior Carlo Izurieta defeated Vito Tonejc 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to make give UTRGV the 2-0 lead. 
 
Sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia added another win at the No. 2 spot after defeating Spanjaard 6-2, 6-3 that made it 3-0 UTRGV.
 
DePaul (4-7) rallied back with wins at No. 6, 5, 4, and 3 singles to clinch the win. 
 
UTRGV is right back at it as it currently faces Eastern Washington in the second match of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.
