CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis picked up its second win of the season by defeating Eastern Washington University 4-1 on Friday at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.
 
UTRGV (2-5) jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. Junior Zane Kohrs and sophomore George Hutchings teamed up for the 6-3 win over Jeremy Mueller and Manuel Balce at the No. 2 spot. 
 
Junoir Michael Loyd and sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia added another victory with a 6-1 win over Bruno Ortega and Mikayel Khachatryanat the No. 3 spot.
 
In singles, UTRGV got three wins to clinch the point as de Felipe Garcia picked up the 6-0, 6-1 win over Balce at the No. 2 spot. 
 
Sophomore Te Kani Williams added a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mueller at the No. 3 spot. Kohrs went three sets with Ortega at the No. 4 spot. After dropping the first set 4-6, Kohrs came back with a 6-1 win in the second and a 6-3 win in the third. 
 
Eastern Washington added their lone point with a win at the No. 6 spot. 
 
UTRGV will close out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Saturday against Troy University at 10 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
