RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team returns to the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Wednesday to host Lamar University at 11 a.m.
 
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend. 
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV (2-6) closed out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions with an 0-4 loss to Troy on Saturday. 
• After winning the doubles point, Troy won at No. 1, 3, and 5 singles to clinch the win. 
• George Hutchings was on the verge of picking up a victory over Christopher Tasker but his match was stopped as he was leading 6-4, 5-4 at No. 4 singles. 

 
Win Over Eastern Washington

• UTRGV picked up a win at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions as it defeated Eastern Washington 4-1 on Friday.
• UTRGV took the early lead by taking the doubles point with the team of Zane Kohrs and George Hutchings picked up a win at the No. 2 spot while the duo of Michael Loyd and Samuel de Felipe Garcia won at the No. 3 spot. 
• In singles, de Felipe Garcia, Te Kani Williams, and Kohrs each won to clinch the win for UTRGV. 

 
All-Time Series Against Lamar

• UTRGV is 39-32-3 all-time against Lamar in series that dates back to 1958.
• Lamar won last season's matchup 4-3 in Beaumont.
• UTRGV last won back on Feb. 24, 2018 when it picked up the 5-2 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center, which snapped a six-match losing streak against Lamar. 
• Last five matches vs. Lamar: L 3-4 (Feb. 15, 2019), W 5-2 (Feb. 24, 2018), L 1-6 (Feb. 19, 2017), L 1-6 (Feb. 7, 2016), and L 3-4 (Feb. 14, 2014). 

 
Scouting Lamar

• Lamar is 4-7 on the season and 0-3 on the road this season. 
• Lamar is currently on a two-math win streak with back-to-back wins over Prairie View A&M.
• Also has a pair of wins over Alcorn State, which came back on Feb. 7 in a doubleheader. 
• Lamar is 26-29 in singles play this spring while posting a doubles record of 19-8. 
• Carlos Paton Canal leads the team with five singles victories while mainly playing at the No. 2 spot. Filippo Salsini and Joshua Taylor each have added four singles victories of their own. 
• Canal and Joshua Sundaram lead the team with six doubles victories while the team has used seven different doubles combinations.
