RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team beat the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits 7-4 in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

Oliver Closner IV led the Vaqueros (5-7) by going 2-for-4 with a double, a career-high tying three RBI and one run scored. Junior
Jacob Hirsh went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Junior
EJ Taylor also scored twice.
Josh Falk led the Jackrabbits (2-8) by going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and one run scored.
Closner broke a scoreless tie in the second with a two-run double off
Eli Sundquist (0-1). Freshman PSJA alum
Trey Guajardo followed with an RBI-single, his first-career hit, to give the Vaqueros a 3-0 lead.
The Jackrabbits got two back on a
Drew Beazley groundout in the third and a Falk double in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, though, the Vaqueros loaded the bases with one out. A passed ball scored a run. Hirsh followed with an RBI-single, freshman
Preston King lifted a sacrifice fly, and Closer punctuated the inning with an RBI-single to put the Vaqueros up 7-2.
Falk hit a two-run home run in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Cannon Davis (1-0) earned the win by striking out five in three innings of relief.

Tyler Kisner struck out six across four innings of relief for the save.
UTRGV and South Dakota State complete the four-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m. For the eighth-straight year, UTRGV is teaming up with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to strike out hunger. Fans that donate five non-perishable food items at any Sunday home game receive a free ticket. Donations support the Food Bank RGV. Gates open at 11 a.m.
