RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team is set for its home opener when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
 
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend. The First 100 fans in attendance will receive a South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union Koozie. Gates open at 11 a.m. 
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV fell 0-7 at Corpus Christi.
• UTRGV sent out this lineup in singles: No. 1 Carlo Izurieta, No. 2 Samuel de Felipe Garcia, No. 3 Alberto Mello, No. 4 Zane Kohrs, No. 5 Mateo Schmit, and No. 6 Michael Loyd.
• In doubles, UTRGV sent out this lineup: No. 1 Carlo Izurieta and Alberto Mello, No. 2 Michael Loyd and Samuel de Felipe Garcia, No. 3 Zane Kohrs and Mateo Schmit.
• Loyd took his match at No. 6 singles to three sets against Carlos Berna Ruiz. Won the first set 6-3 before falling 1-6 and 2-6 in the second and third set.

• UTRGV is 13-45 all-time against Corpus Christi.
• The series dates back to 1961.
• Corpus Christi won both of last season's matches defeating UTRGV 4-0 on Mar. 13 and 6-1 on Feb. 4 and this season's first match up 7-0.
• UTRGV has dropped the last 13 matches against Corpus Christi.
• The last time UTRGV defeated Corpus Christi came back on Mar. 10, 2010 after picking up the 4-3 victory in Corpus Christi.

• Corpus Christi is 5-1 on the season.
• Defeated Prairie View A&M, twice, Trinity, twice, and UTRGV.
• Corpus Christi suffered its first loss of the season to Louisiana, falling 2-5 on Feb. 1.
• Corpus Christi returns five from last year's squad, including William Mottet who led the team with 15 wins last season and Kyohei Yamanaka who added 13 victories.
• Corpus Christi has four freshmen on the squad with Ryuya Ata leading the way.
• Ata and Yamanaka lead the team this season with 6 singles victories as the team is now 26-4 in singles play.
• Corpus Christi is 8-5 in doubles play while just using three doubles teams through the first four matches.
