RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team returns home to host the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend. 
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV (5-8) picked up a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State on Monday.
• UTRGV won 5-2 and 5-0.
• After picking up a doubles match by default, UTRGV got a win at No. 2 doubles with Zane Kohrs and George Hutchings defeating Lucas Dini and Santiago Rocca 6-3 to clinch the point. 
• UTRGV then got singles wins from Samuel de Felipe Garcia, Hutchings, Kohrs, and Alberto Mello to clinch the win.
• In the second match, de Felipe Garcia, Hutchings, Mello, Loyd and Te Kani Williams record wins to help UTRGV to its second win of the day. 
• No doubles were played in the second match. 

 
All-Time Series Against UIW

• UTRGV is 4-5 against UIW all-time in a series that dates back to 2001.
• UIW won last year's match 6-1 in San Antonio.
• The last win for UTRGV came on Feb. 10, 2018 when it won 5-2 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
• UTRGV's last five matches with UIW: L 1-6 (Mar. 3, 2019), W 5-2 (Feb. 10, 2018), L 1-4 (Feb. 25, 2017), L 2-4 (Feb. 20, 2016), and W 4-3 (Feb. 7, 2015).

 
Scouting UIW

• UIW is 3-4 on the season.
• UIW is coming off of a 6-1 win over Southwestern on Feb. 27. 
• Its other two wins came against Our Lady of the Lake and Prairie View A&M.
• UIW is wrapping up a six-match road trip. 

 
Sweeping WAC Athlete of the Week Honors

• UTRGV swept the WAC Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this season.
• Samuel de Felipe Garcia earned WAC Singles Player of the Week after going 2-1 for the Vaqueros. 
• De Felipe Garcia saw his win streak extend to four matches in a row before dropping his lone match of the week. He bounced back with a win at New Orleans. 
• It is de Felipe Garcia's second straight WAC Athlete of the Week honor. 
• The duo of Zane Kohrs and George Hutchings took home the WAC Doubles Team of the Week honor after going 2-0 last week. 
• Both wins helped UTRGV clinch the doubles point vs. Nicholls State and New Orleans. 
• The duo improved to 4-1 as a team this spring.
