RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team played the Lamar Cardinals to a scoreless double overtime draw on Saturday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Vaqueros (5-11-2, 1-6-1 WAC) outshot the Cardinals (7-7-2, 4-2-2 WAC) 15-10, including 9-4 on goal. The Vaqueros also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Junior
Emily Zapata attempted a match-high five shots, including four on goal. Sophomore
Elina Seppälä attempted three shots, including two on goal. Sophomore
Anna Torslov also came up with three shots, with one going on the net. Juniors
Anna Barkey and
Shentatious Knox each attempted one shot on goal as well.
Nicole Panis (6-7-1) made nine saves for the Cardinals for the shutout.
Isela Ramirez led the Cardinals with three shots, including two on goal.
Graduate student
Maile Lunardi (3-10-1) finished with four saves for her fourth shutout of the season.
UTRGV is back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Abilene Christian at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Admission is complimentary. Those unable to attend the match in person can watch in the United States on
