RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team played the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders to a scoreless double overtime draw as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on Wednesday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Vaqueros (2-0-1) and Islanders (0-2-1) are now tied 16.5-16.5 in the showdown standings.
The Vaqueros attempted 12 corner kicks, the second-highest total in program history and their most since attempting 15 at Corpus Christi on Aug. 19, 2016. The Islanders attempted three corner kicks.
The Vaqueros outshot the Islanders 20-4, including 8-2 on goal.
Sophomore
Maile Lunardi (2-0-1) made two saves for her second shutout of the season.
Kennedy Stelling (0-2-1) made eight saves.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at UTSA.
The next event of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, is on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when volleyball hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
