SEATTLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the University of Washington Huskies 6-0 on Sunday at Husky Ballpark.
Sophomore
Diego Ramirez led the Vaqueros (2-4) offensively, going 2-for-4. Graduate students
Coleman Grubbs and
Joseph Impeduglia added doubles.
On the mound, graduate student
Max Balderrama Jr. pitched four innings of relief, striking out two while allowing one run on four hits and three walks.
The lone run came in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by
Kaiser Weiss.
The Huskies (2-3) scored against graduate student
Kevin Palm (0-1) in the opening inning, with
Braiden Ward coming home on a passed ball and
Michael Brown homering to right.
After a scoreless second, the Huskies added single runs in each of the next three innings.
Christian Jones supplied a sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI-single in the fifth.
Will Simpson homered to left in the fourth.
That made a winner of
Jack Enger (1-0), who struck out five while allowing two hits across five scoreless innings.
UTRGV and Washington complete this four-game series on Monday at 3 p.m. on Pac-12 Plus.
